Environment-Question and Answer-IV

Question:
What if there is no recycling in the world what would happen?
Answer:
Recycling is must in order to conserve the present pollution statistics.(water, waste etc) Suppose if we consider waste eg:plastic waste there are many advantages with recycling like controlling huge amounts of solid waste. even if we take electronic waste there are hell lot of advantages with recycling like recovery of metals, reuse etc ultimately saving our environment. Like this the examples are oodles. So..if there is no recycling the waste increases tremendously leading to disposal problems and consequently further depleting the surroundings in one or the other way.

Question:

How do human activities increase the harmful drought?how can we reduce this effect? i would like to know what are the reasons for drought... i have heard of the drought in somalia but i don't have any information of it... how can the drought be reduced?

Answer:

Before thinking of anthropogenic sources for droughts let me clarify what a drought is:If a region faces deficiency in water supply for prolonged duration( be it months and years) that area can be categorized into drought hit area. reasons/causes: Lack of precipitation consistently. Coming to the point of human activities (its partial not complete): Deforestation: One of the ways through which ground water is being extracted through plants and release into atmosphere. Also deforestation reduces soil cohesion due to which the ability of the soil to capture and hold water will be lost. Digging bore wells/Excessive irrigation Over farming etc. Mitigation: Cloud seeding-expensive water restrictions on usage Water harvesting regular monitoring of droughts .

Question:
Can you answer this IMPOSSIBLE Question? How have human activities impacted the sustainability of water resources on planet?how have humans used technology to change the sustainability of water on earth!?

Answer:

To answer this let me define what sustainability is..
The rate of change of resources=0 i.e,if we consider a resource it should not only serve the needs right now, but also it should be able to meet the future demand. There are many human activities like bore wells, discharge of effluents into water bodies( sources of drinking water),urbanization etc. These activities effects water resources by lowering the groundwater levels, depleting the surface water quality etc.

Enviroment -Question and Answer-I

Question:
How is it saving the enviorment by reducing electricity if your power comes from a hydro dam?

Answer:
It's a good idea due to the following

Advantages:

1. Fuel is not burned-less pollution
2. Water to run the power plant is provided free by nature
3.Hydro power plays a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions
4.The technology is reliable and proven over time
5. It's renewable - rainfall renews the water in the reservoir, so the fuel is almost always there but rainfall dependent!!

Disadvantages:

1.High initial costs
2.People living in downstream areas have to be relocated which involves Huge capital again.
3.After all its rain dependent

Hydro electric power represents 19% of the total electricity production( world basis).

There is much potential for it due to availability of water resources in countries like Latin America,India,China.

But as a whole to conclude, hydro resources must be identified, and a detailed life cycle analysis must be made for pollution and cost statistics to generate electricity, compare it with the traditional ways.
Then one can opt a methodology that would be apt for a country.
