Enviroment -Question and Answer-III

Question:

How do human activities increase the harmful drought?how can we reduce this effect? i would like to know what are the reasons for drought... i have heard of the drought in somalia but i don't have any information of it... how can the drought be reduced?

Answer:

Before thinking of anthropogenic sources for droughts let me clarify what a drought is:If a region faces deficiency in water supply for prolonged duration( be it months and years) that area can be categorized into drought hit area. reasons/causes: Lack of precipitation consistently. Coming to the point of human activities (its partial not complete): Deforestation: One of the ways through which ground water is being extracted through plants and release into atmosphere. Also deforestation reduces soil cohesion due to which the ability of the soil to capture and hold water will be lost. Digging bore wells/Excessive irrigation Over farming etc. Mitigation: Cloud seeding-expensive water restrictions on usage Water harvesting regular monitoring of droughts .
